2009 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2009 Buick Lucerne?
A: The first task to replace the positive battery cable requires removing the surge tank. Begin the replacement by disconnecting the negative battery cable before removing both front and rear floor carpets. The positive battery cable needs to be loosened from the battery and separated while its retainer should be taken off from the floor pan stud. First disconnect the positive battery cable nut and terminal from the junction block stud then take out the retaining piece from the rocker panel and the retaining pieces and clips from the body harness channel and dash mat. Pull away the junction block cover lock tabs before taking the junction block cover out. Disengage the starter solenoid cable nut from the bussed electrical center (BEC) and separate the starter solenoid cable and positive battery cable from its terminal at the BEC stud. The positive battery cable grommet needs removal from its front dash position before gently pulling the cable through before exposing it outside the vehicle. To install the cable you should feed it through the dash opening while fixing the grommet in place. The positive battery clips get installed in the side engine compartment where users should connect the positive battery cable to the BEC stud and then add the starter solenoid cable. Fix the starter solenoid cable into place by using the appropriate nut which should be tightened to 15 Nm (11 lb ft). The installation requires the junction block cover to be replaced followed by positioning the dash mat flap. Begin by placing the positive battery cable clip over the dash mat and proceed by installing the clips and retainers to the body harness. Secure the positive battery cable terminal along with its nut onto the junction block stud while tightening to 15 Nm (11 lb ft) before attaching the positive battery cable retainer to the floor pan stud. Place the positive battery cable on the battery before fastening the nut until it reaches 15 Nm (11 lb ft). The completion process consists of reconnecting the negative battery cable while reinstalling the carpet before installing the surge tank.
