Negative Cable

Initiating battery cable replacement requires dismantling the surge tank while disconnecting the negative cable along with removing floor panel carpets in front and back. The positive battery cable cover should be unsnapped before being moved aside while performing the cable separation process between the cable and the battery. Disconnect the positive battery cable retainer which anchors to the floor pan stud followed by the junction block stud nut and terminal then remove the clips along with retainers from both rocker panel and the body harness channel. Pull the positive cable assembly out of the vehicle after carefully unseating its grommet from the dash area front. The new positive battery cable should be passed through the dash front before installing grommet clips and retainers to their designated positions. The positive battery cable needs connection to the BEC stud followed by attaching the starter solenoid cable to the BEC while tightening the nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). The technician should place the junction block cover back and fold the dash mat flap before attaching the positive battery cable clip to the dash mat. After reinstallation of the carpet and surge tank users must verify that all components are securely connected. Reconnect the wire leading to the negative battery cable last.

The first step for replacing the positive battery cable requires removal of the surge tank followed by the negative cable disconnection. Take out the carpet material from the front and rear floor panels. Remove the positive battery cable cover after unsnapping its fasteners then locate its bolt to loosen before detaching the cable from the battery. After removing the floor pan stud retainer of the positive battery cable the technician must disconnect the junction block stud nut and terminal. Proceed with the battery cable retainer removal from both the rocker panel and also detach the retainers and clips from the body harness channel and dash mat. Start by removing the junction block cover through opening the locks tabs. Begin by disconnecting the starter solenoid cable from its nut attached to the bussed electrical center and then remove the cable from the BEC stud followed by the positive battery cable from its BEC stud connection. The positive battery cable grommet should be unlatched from the dash front panel while the cable is extracted through both the dash and vehicle bodywork. To install the new positive battery cable you should pass it through the dash front then seat the grommet before attaching the clips on the engine compartment sides. Using a new cable attach the positive connection to the BEC stud before putting back the starter solenoid cable. Fasten the nut onto the starter solenoid cable while tightening it to 15 N.m (11 lb ft), ensuring later installation of the junction block cover. After positioning the dash mat flap you should install the clip to this mat while also securing the clips and retainers to the body harness. Screw the positive battery cable terminal and its nut onto the junction block stud and then tighten the nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). The retainer requires tightening to 15 N.m (11 lb ft) at the floor pan stud. The positive battery cable requires placement onto the battery before securing the bolt at 17 N.m (13 lb ft). Finally cover the cable with its enclosure. After reconnecting the negative battery cable users should replace the carpet and reattach the surge tank into position.

Always use replacement cables that match the type, diameter, and length of the original cables, and route the new cable in the same manner. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable.

Install the positive battery cable clip to the dash mat, followed by the clips and retainers to the body harness. Attach the positive battery cable retainer to the rocker panel, connect the terminal to the junction block stud, and secure it with the nut, tightening to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).

Remove the negative battery cable ground bolt and take out the negative battery cable.
