2009 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft timing chain and sprocket on 2009 Buick Lucerne?
A: You must remove the engine front cover before you begin the camshaft Timing Chain and sprocket replacement. Place the Crankshaft timing mark alongside the bottom timing mark of the tensioner while setting the camshaft gear timing mark next to the tensioner's top mark. Introduce the tensioner retention pin into the tensioner's mounting hole while operating the en-47719 (Tensioner Compressor) to compress the tensioning mechanism. After disconnecting the camshaft sprocket/actuator bolts you should remove the Timing Chain together with the camshaft sprocket/actuator and Crankshaft sprockets. Evacuate the Timing Chain Tensioner bolts before removing the tensioner unit itself. Start installation by mounting the Crankshaft sprocket then add prelube to its thrust surface. Tighten the tensioner bolts to 21 nm (15 lb ft) when you install the Timing Chain Tensioner. Use en-47719 (Tensioner Compressor) to pull the tensioner all the way until you can insert the retaining pin through the retaining hole. New camshaft position actuator filters must be installed during every actuator installation or replacement. Place the timing mark on the Crankshaft in line with the bottom marking on the tensioner while fastening the sprocket to the camshaft. Install the chain to the Crankshaft gear while the chain hangs down. Run the camshaft gear timing mark parallel to the tensioner's top marking while also making sure both camshaft sprocket dowels line up with their holes in the camshaft. Before mounting bolts on the camshaft position actuator addictive compounds must be avoided since they introduce contamination. Apply mounting bolts to draw the camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft before tightening it to 16 nm (12 lb ft). Coat the Crankshaft together with camshaft sprockets using clean engine oil before reinstalling the engine front cover.
