2009 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2009 Buick Lucerne?
A: The crankshaft balancer replacement process starts by removing the Drive Belt before raising the vehicle for support under which you should remove the right front tire along with the wheel. Position adjustable jack stands underneath the frame before you discard the front wheelhouse liner. Lower the right side of the frame by removing right side frame bolts while keeping left side frame bolts loose to reach the crankshaft balancer. Put the j 37096 onto the Flywheel before removal of torque converter covers to stop Flywheel rotation. Install the j 37096 between the Flywheel to stop rotation while carefully removing the crankshaft balancer bolt along with its washer. Power tools should be avoided for this step to prevent bolt key misalignment. The removal procedure requires the combination of j 41816 and en 46359 tools for the crankshaft balancer. Apply sealer into the keyway of the crankshaft balancer and secure it on the crankshaft key for installation. Installation of components should avoid the use of power-assisted tools. Thread the j 29113 into the crankshaft opening and you can set the hex nut to install the balancer. Begin by removing the j 29113 and then install the crankshaft balancer washer followed by the bolt. Use the old bolt to tighten to 125 nm (92 lb ft) and replace it with a new bolt which should be tightened to 125 nm (92 lb ft) through one full rotation on the j 45059. The j 45059 should be used to apply 125 nm (92 lb ft) torque to the new bolt during its first tightening and then advance it to 130 degrees. After removing the j 45059 from the Flywheel, put the torque converter covers back into position and raise the frame back into place. Then tighten both right and left side frame bolts to 74 lb ft while using the j 45059 to the point of 90 degrees additional rotation. Reinstallation of front wheelhouse liner and right front tire and wheel must be completed before lowering the vehicle and Drive Belt installation.
