2010 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft timing chain and sprocket on 2010 Buick Lucerne?
A: Engine front cover removal is the first procedure to replace the camshaft Timing Chain and sprocket. Lay the Crankshaft timing mark parallel to the tensioner's bottom timing mark while placing the camshaft gear timing mark directly above the cylinder head timing mark. Before tensioner installation, position the en-47719 (Tensioner Compressor) onto the tensioner body to reduce its size and place the retaining pin into the designated hole. To start the disassembly proceed by removing the camshaft sprocket/actuator bolts then move to the Timing Chain followed by the camshaft sprocket/actuator and Crankshaft sprockets. Unbolt the Timing Chain Tensioner and discard it with the tensioner itself. Begin the installation by placing the Crankshaft sprocket onto its position then lubricate its thrust surface with prelube. Tighten the tensioner bolts to a torque of 21 nm (15 lb ft) while installing the Timing Chain Tensioner. Use the en-47719 to copress the tensioner before you slide the retaining pin into its hole. Insert a brand-new camshaft position actuator filter during every actuator installation or removal. Start by aligning the Crankshaft timing mark with the tensioner's bottom timing mark then position the camshaft sprocket holding the hanging Timing Chain to install it onto the Crankshaft gear. The timing mark on top of the Timing Chain Tensioner must align with the mark on the camshaft gear as the dowel from the sprocket lines up to the hole in the camshaft. Use no threadlocking compound on camshaft position actuator bolt mounting because it has the potential to harm the actuator. Insert the camshaft sprocket across the camshaft by using its mounting bolts then torque them to 16 nm (12 lb ft). Before reinstalling the engine front cover apply engine oil to both the Crankshaft and camshaft sprockets.
