First step to replace the rear object sensor requires removing the rear bumper fascia. You must disconnect the electrical connector from the rear object sensor followed by raising the locking tabs on the housing until you can detach the rear object sensor unit. To detach the spring from the housing use pressure and afterward unlock the housing tabs for their removal. You should push the rear object sensor bezel completely through the fascia for extraction. The new rear object sensor needs to be painted without sensor refinishing before paint application because non-ferrous metals require a suitable paint thickness gauge to verify a maximum of 6 mils. Press down on the keyhole and key alignment before making the rear object sensor bezel meet the fascia surface. Install the housing to cutout positions on the bezel while facing the fascia from its back side and place both spring keys at the upper and lower housing positions. Attach the spring first to the housing after which add the decoupling ring to the sensor. Connect the sensor to the housing so that the connector touches the passenger left side of the fascia while pressing its tabs into the housing openings. To complete the process connect the electrical connector to the rear object sensor before reinstalling the rear bumper fascia.
