• Q: How to Replace the Door Lock Switch on the Passenger Front Door on 2009 Cadillac XLR?

  A: The replacement of the power Door Lock Switch in the passenger front doors begins by setting the ignition to off position. Start by taking out the door trim panel followed by removing the screws retaining the upper trim section on the door back. Afterward detach the upper trim assembly from the door. Begin by removing the inner energy absorber from the door panel and then progress to extract the four retaining screws from the rear of the armrest as well as the one screw at the forward end of the assembly. Disconnect the armrest wire harness and remove the armrest assembly maintaining protection for the surface of the mirror and window and applique on the Door Lock Switch plate by using duct tape. First disconnect the wire harness from the pocket where the power Door Lock Switch assembly is located. Start by attaching the new switch to the armrest switch plate applique then connect the wire harness and put the switch assembly in the pocket of the door trim panel by removing protective tape at the end of installation. Attach the Door Armrest wire harness followed by the assembly installation to the door trim panel using the four rear retaining screws and one forward securing screw which should be tightened to 10 nm (89 lb in). Reinstall the inner energy absorber and upper trim together with the retainers which should be tightened to 10 nm (89 lb in) before installing the door trim panel.
