2009 Cadillac XLR Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: The initial step for Oil Pan replacement starts with crossmember removal of the front suspension. Empty the engine oil before you uninstall the engine Oil Filter while it drains. First disconnect the engine oil level sensor electrical connector then remove the automatic transmission fluid cooler line mounting clips. Start by removing the oil level sensor and thereafter uninstall both the Oil Pan bolts and the Oil Pan itself. Drill the Oil Pan Gasket rivets then throw away the old gasket before cleaning and inspecting the Oil Pan. Check that every gasket area remains free of oil contamination and foreign materials before installation. The installation procedure requires a new Oil Pan Gasket which is not riveted but must be placed onto the lower crankcase in a flush position no further than 0.50 mm (0.020 in) from the engine block's rear face. Follow a specific bolt installation sequence to torque the bolts at 15 nm (11 lb ft) during the first step and achieve 25 nm (18 lb ft) at the final torque. After installing and tightening the oil drain plug to 25 nm (18 lb ft) install the engine oil level sensor into the Oil Pan then tighten it to 20 nm (15 lb ft). Contain the electrical connector to the engine oil level sensor after installing mounting clips for the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines and tightening a new engine Oil Filter to 30 nm (22 lb ft). After reattaching the front suspension crossmember, add the correct type and amount of engine oil before conducting an engine leak test.
