2009 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: Starting the left Timing Chain replacement process requires first removing the right Timing Chain component. Using the j 39946 (Crankshaft Socket) to rotate the Crankshaft lets users align its primary timing gear marks next to each other. Take off the left Camshaft position actuator housing before removing the attached actuator solenoids. Install en 46328 (Camshaft Holding Tool) to the left bank 2 camshafts then loosen the left Timing Chain Tensioner bolts and remove the tensioner. An open-end wrench should prevent Camshaft rotation before removing the bank 2 (left) exhaust Camshaft position oil control valve so you can pull off the left exhaust Camshaft position actuator by releasing the Timing Chain from its teeth. Proceed with the same steps for the bank 2 (left) intake Camshaft position oil control valve and actuator. The engine receives the left Timing Chain for removal before the Camshaft timing drive components get cleaned and inspected. For the new Timing Chain installation process, place the three black links at the precise timing marks of bank 2 exhaust actuator and bank 2 intake actuator and intermediate sprocket. Insert the Timing Chain onto the intermediate sprocket while making sure the sprocket's lb timing mark coordinates with the black link position. Fitting the lb intake Camshaft position actuator requires positioning its timing mark perpendicular to the cylinder head deck surface before applying loose torque to the oil control valve and firm tightening to 120 nm (89 lb ft) to prevent Camshaft rotation. The same installation procedure must be repeated for the exhaust Camshaft position actuator of the lb. Complete the engine work by installing the left Timing Chain Tensioner and the right Timing Chain followed by removing the en 46328 then installing the left Camshaft position actuator housing.
