- Q: How to replace the windshield wiper arm on 2009 Cadillac XLR?A: First, open the hood and move the Ignition Switch to accy, and then put the Wiper Switch in the delay position. Before you turn off the ignition, bring the wiper arms to the middle wipe spot. Put masking tape on the windshield at the Wiper Blade tips as a guide when you install the new ones. Take off the washer hose from the air inlet grille panel, then lift off the Wiper Arm nut cover and take out the Wiper Arm nut . Grip the Wiper Arm near the hinge and rock it gently toward the windshield to take it off the wiper shaft, and then remove the Wiper Arm and take off the Wiper Blade from it. For installation, put the Wiper Blade onto the Wiper Arm, checking and cleaning the wiper transmission shaft and Wiper Arm splines if you find any corrosion. Line up the tip of the Wiper Blade with the masking tape marks made on the windshield and mount the Wiper Arm onto the wiper transmission splined shaft. Put the Wiper Arm nut in place and tighten it to 29 nm (21 lb ft). After that, attach the Wiper Arm nut cover and connect the washer hose to the air inlet grille panel. In the end, take off the masking tape from the windshield and see that the wipers are working correctly.
