- Q: How to replace the windshield wiper arm on 2008 Cadillac XLR?A: Start replacement by opening the hood while setting the wiper button to delay in accy position with Ignition Switch and flipping the switch off. Turn the Ignition Switch off after setting the wiper arms at their middle position. Stick masking tape to the windshield tips of the wiper arms to help you reinstall them in their proper positions. Unhook the washer hose from the air outlet panel and take off both the Wiper Arm nut plate and Wiper Arm nut. Grasp the Wiper Arm at the joint and shake it toward the windshield to ease the connection between wiper shaft and arm. Remove the Wiper Arm and take off the Wiper Blade. Insert the Wiper Blade onto the Wiper Arm afterward inspect the wiper transmission and Wiper Arm splines for any corrosion and clean them when required. Place the wiper tip on the windshield markings made by tape. Fit the Wiper Arm onto the transmission shaft with its splines. After installing the Wiper Arm writer it is necessary to apply 29 n.m (21 lb ft) torque and put the Wiper Arm nut cover in place. Place the washer hose back on the air inlet panel while unscrewing the tape from the windshield and test the wipers for any issues.
