How to replace a two-piece drive shaft on 2009 Chevrolet Colorado?

The replacement process of the two-piece propeller shaft begins when you place the transmission into the neutral position and free the park brake if present. Raise and support the vehicle. Proper alignment of u-joints to transmission, center bearing support and rear drive axle pinion flange will be achieved by rotating propeller shafts until external clips become aligned. Marking the rear propeller shaft locations should be performed at the pinion drive flange and center bearing support and transmission unit. Start by taking off the clamps along with bolts that secure the rear propeller shaft at its pinion drive flange as well as its center bearing. You should secure each rear u-joint bearing cap using tape or rubber bands to stop the caps from separating. Remove the rear propeller shaft from the center bearing before gradually removing the bolts that hold the center bearing within the crossmember. Pull the center bearing completely from the structure. The transmitter must receive the last propeller shaft component. Begin installation by matching the reference points of the propeller shaft with the transmission then insert the propeller shaft inside the transmission. Connect the center bearing to the crossmember before installing and tightening its mounting bolts to 80 nm. To align marks on the pinion yoke to the propeller shaft marks use a tape or rubber band which you will then have to remove. Place the u-joint into the pinion yoke followed by clamps and retaining bolts installation before torquing bolts to 30 nm (22 lb ft). Confirm correct alignment using the marks on the propeller shaft and transmission pinion yoke then position the vehicle for installation.
