2009 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Battery Cable for RPOs LZE-3.5L Flex Fuel, LZ4-3.5L Gas, and LZ8-3.9L Flex Fuel on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step for replacing battery cables with rpos lze-3.5l flex fuel, lz4-3.5l gas, and lz8-3.9l flex fuel is to disconnect the negative Battery Cable. Next step is to open the positive Battery Cable terminal cover while loosening the positive Battery Cable terminal nut. Start by removing the positive Battery Cable terminal from the battery before extracting the ground wire bolt and wire which are attached to the upper tie bar. Remove the power connections from both the i/p harness electrical connector to the battery current sensor and the i/p harness connector to the Battery Cable terminal. Begin by removing the cover of the bussed electrical center (BEC) followed by taking off the positive Battery Cable junction block lead nut along with its corresponding cable from the bec connection points. After raising the vehicle follow by removing the front lower air deflector from its location. The process commences with Starter solenoid bat terminal nut removal from the Starter while positive Battery Cable removal from Starter motor takes place. The Battery Cable ground and transaxle stud nut must be detached from the transaxle stud while lowering the vehicle. The positive and negative Battery Cable retainers must be removed from the right-hand rail and the cradle before extracting the positive and negative Battery Cable assembly out of the vehicle. The replacement process for the battery current sensor requires the removal of electrical tape and tie straps from its attachment points on the Battery Cable. Then compress the cable branches and remove the sensor from the cable. To install the battery current sensor onto the cable, position the tape tab towards the positive terminal then secure it using new tie straps and electrical tape. Systematically install the positive and negative Battery Cable assembly on the vehicle before fixing the positive and negative cable retainers on the cradle and right-hand rail. The transaxle stud receives the Battery Cable ground before installing the transaxle stud nut which needs tightness set at 30 nm (22 lb ft). Position the positive Battery Cable onto the Starter motor and fasten the Starter solenoid bat terminal nut to the Starter while tightening it to 10 nm (89 lb in). Once the front lower air deflector is installed the vehicle needs to be lowered before connecting the positive Battery Cable to the bec then adding the positive Battery Cable junction block lead nut and tightening it to 10 nm (89 lb in). The bec cover installation must be accompanied by installing the Battery Cable connector to the i/p harness connector and connecting the i/p harness electrical connector to the battery current sensor. The installation process ends with attaching and screwing the ground wire with bolt to the upper tie bar before attaching the positive Battery Cable terminal to the battery. Finish by tightening the positive Battery Cable terminal nut to 15 nm (11 lb ft) and closing the positive Battery Cable terminal cover before reattaching the negative Battery Cable.
