2010 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive and negative battery cables for RPOs LZE/LZ4/LGD on 2010 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step in battery positive and negative cable replacement of lze/lz4/lgd rpo vehicles is to disconnect the negative Battery Cable. Open the positive Battery Cable terminal cover by unscrewing its nut. Start by disconnecting the positive Battery Cable terminal from the battery while also taking off the ground wire bolt along with wire from the upper tie bar. Unplug the single electrical connector from both the battery current sensor and the i/p harness connector. First remove the bussed electrical center (BEC) cover and unfasten the positive Battery Cable junction block lead nut and positive Battery Cable from the bec. Lift and stabilize the motor vehicle before removing the front lower air deflector. Use a wrench to unscrew the Starter solenoid bat terminal nut and extract the positive Battery Cable from the Starter motor. Drop the vehicle and dismount the Battery Cable ground while also extracting the transaxle stud nut. Posteriorly slip out the positive and negative Battery Cable retainers from the right-hand rail and from the cradle before extracting the complete positive and negative Battery Cable assembly from the vehicle. When changing the Battery Cable assembly you should detach the electrical tape and tie straps securing the battery current sensor before compressing the cable ends to remove the battery current sensor. During assembly position the battery current sensor on the cable by placing the tape tab near the positive connection then fasten it with new straps and tape. After installing the positive and negative Battery Cable assembly on the vehicle you can secure the retainers to both the cradle and right-hand rail. Install the transaxle stud nut followed by tightening it to 30 nm (22 lb ft). Set the vehicle back onto the rack and install the Starter motor positive Battery Cable while tightening the bat terminal nut to 10 nm (89 lb in) torque. Reinstall the front lower air deflector before lowering the vehicle to attach the positive Battery Cable to bec using junction block lead nut while tightening it to 10 nm (89 lb in). Reconnect the Battery Cable connector to the i/p harness connector then restore the i/p harness electrical connector to the battery current sensor. When complete connect the ground wire to the upper tie bar while tightening the bolt to 10 nm (89 lb in). Then attach the positive Battery Cable terminal to the battery and tighten the terminal nut to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Finally snap closed the positive Battery Cable terminal cover and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
