2009 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The replacement of the lower Intake Manifold requires disconnection of the battery ground negative cable. Start the replacement process by removing first the upper Intake Manifold then both rock arm covers on the left and right side. Begin by disconnecting both the fuel feed line from the Fuel Rail and the Fuel Injector inline connector before removing the Fuel Injector harness connector bracket bolt and disconnecting the engine coolant temperature (ECT) and camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connectors. Begin by uninstalling the Fuel Injector rail bolts then removing the Fuel Rail which precedes the lower Intake Manifold bolts before ultimately removing the lower Intake Manifold. The installation requires valve rocker arm bolt rotation followed by complete removal of valve rocker arms and push rods with an organized system for their future placement. Degrease the lower Intake Manifold gasket surfaces on all major engine components including heads and block and lower Intake Manifold gasket surfaces. Also remove all loose room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealer. After coating the push rod ends with prelube you should reinstall the push rods in their original positions. Save prelube for application onto the rocker arm friction surfaces before reinstalling the valve rocker arms at their factory markings while torqueing the valve rocker arm bolts to 34 nm (25 lb ft). New gaskets and seals installed, you must apply rtv sealer to four Intake Manifold to engine block joint corners before setting the lower Intake Manifold in position. Use sealer on the lower Intake Manifold bolt threads after which you should install these bolts following the correct sequence until they reach 16 nm (12 lb ft) torque and then 25 nm (18 lb ft). Review the condition of the Fuel Rail and fuel injectors and Fuel Injector o-rings before applying engine oil to the o-rings and inserting the injector nozzles into lower Intake Manifold injector holes. Seating the rail injector requires steady pressure before installing the Fuel Injector rail bolts with a torque of 10 nm (89 lb in). Install the bracket bolt which needs a torque value of 8 nm (71 lb in) before positioning the Fuel Injector harness connector bracket to the Intake Manifold. The Fuel Rail requires its fuel feed line along with its inline connector to be attached. Finish the installation by firstly placing back the right and left valve rocker arm covers followed by the upper Intake Manifold and lastly reattaching the battery negative ground wire.
