2009 Chevrolet Impala Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: To replace the upper Intake Manifold, one starts by removing the negative Battery Cable. Take off the Intake Manifold cover and take out the cooling system. Then, unplug the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) fresh air tube and the pcv foul air tube, as well as the vacuum hose from the Intake Manifold. New heater inlet/outlet hose/pipe clamps on the engine pipes, remove the heater inlet/ outlet hoses/pipes from the engine pipes and Throttle Body studs. Unplug the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connection from the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid electrical connection, and relieve the pressure from the chassis evap line quick connect fitting on the purge solenoid. To disassemble the throttle control, disconnect the electronic throttle control (ETC) by unplugging it, eliminate the air cleaner outlet duct, and remove the left side sparks plug wires from the sparks plugs and drives the Ignition Coil. Retainer clips of the Spark Plug Wires to be disconnected, remove left side Spark Plug Wires to be removed followed by the Throttle Body bolts and nuts and then Throttle Body and gasket. Unbolt the evap canister purge solenoid valve and the valve itself, next unbolt the bracket holding the map sensor and remove the bracket, with the sensor. Take off the bolts of Ignition Coil bracket, the nut of Intake Manifold cover ball stud, and the upper Intake Manifold bolts and stud. Separate and unbolt the upper Intake Manifold to the lower Intake Manifold, then remove the upper to lower Intake Manifold gaskets and clean all the mating surfaces. For installation, fit new upper to lower Intake Manifold gaskets, fit the upper Intake Manifold to the lower Intake Manifold and apply threadlock to the upper Intake Manifold bolts/stud threads before torquing them to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Mount the Intake Manifold cover ball stud nut, service 5 nm (44 lb in), then mount the Ignition Coil bracket bolts and service them with 25 nm (18 lb ft). Mount the map sensor and bracket, and tighten the bracket bolts to 25 nm (18 lb ft), then the evap canister purge solenoid valve and its bolt, to 16 nm (12 lb ft). Check the seal of the Throttle Body for their condition and replace them if damaged, and apply threadlock to the throttle bodies/studs threads. Put the Throttle Body Gasket and Throttle Body in place on the intake, and install the Throttle Body bolts and nuts, which should be tightened up to 10 nm (89 lb in). Reinstall the left Spark Plug Wires, secure the arrangement with the Spark Plug wire clips, and connect the wires to the spark coils and spark plugs. Mount the air cleaner outlet duct, plug in the evap canister purge solenoid electrical connector, and connect the chassis evap line quick connect fitting to the purge solenoid. Connect the etc electrical connector and map sensor electrical connector then position the hoses/pipes and put the heater inlet and outlet hoses/pipes to the engine pipe/throttle body studs and tighten the clamp nuts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Change the position of heater inlet and outlet hose/pipe clamps, connect the vacuum hose to the Intake Manifold, and then connect pcv foul air tube and pcv fresh air tube. Refill the cooling system then lastly the negative cable of the battery before screwing the cover for the Intake Manifold.
