2009 Chevrolet Impala Parking Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The initial step in Parking Brake Shoe replacement requires vehicle support and tire wheel assembly detachment before continuing with maintenance. First lower the tension from the park brake system at the equalizer assembly then remove the rear caliper bracket followed by removing the rear rotor. The rear park brake cable must be detached from the rear wheel bracket before separating the park brake cable return spring from the park brake actuator situated at the rear wheel. The removal of the rear hub requires the backing plate and park brake cable bracket as well as park brake actuator to detach as one assembly. First disconnect two retainers and the park brake cable bracket from the park brake actuator followed by taking out the park brake shoe and actuator from the backing plate to separate the park brake shoe from the actuator. The park brake shoe assembly needs to be created with the actuator before installation onto the backing plate to cover the rear hub. Fasten the 2 retainers onto the park brake cable bracket and secure them at 14 nm (124 lb in). The installation involves replacing the rear hub followed by securing the rear park brake cable at the bracket located on the rear wheel while connecting the park brake cable return spring to the joint of the park brake actuator and its bracket. Proceed with installation of the rear rotor then attach the rear caliper bracket followed by the rear tire with wheel. The last procedure involves adjusting the park brake followed by lowering the vehicle.
