2010 Chevrolet Impala Parking Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on 2010 Chevrolet Impala?
A: A worker must begin brake shoe replacement by lifting and sustaining the vehicle before removing the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Release tension from the park brake system at the equalizer assembly before moving on to remove the rear caliper bracket together with the rear rotor. By disconnecting the rear park brake cable from its bracket on the rear wheel you can proceed to remove the park brake cable return spring from the actuator and bracket connection point. The complete assembly consisting of the rear hub together with the rear hub, backing plate, park brake cable bracket, and park brake actuator can be separated as one unit. The next step requires removal of two retainers and a park brake cable bracket from the park brake actuator before extracting the park brake shoe and actuator from the backing plate when separating the park brake shoe from the actuator. The installation process starts with attaching the park brake shoe to the actuator before mounting the park brake shoe together with the actuator onto the backing plate . Attach the park brake cable bracket first and afterward install the 2 retainers while tightening the retainers to 14 nm (124 lb in). Mount the rear hub while connecting the rear park brake cable to the bracket on the rear wheel and route the park brake cable return spring between the actuator and the bracket. Reinstall the rear rotor after the rear caliper bracket and put back the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Complete the park brake system adjustment before driving the vehicle down.
