2010 Chevrolet Impala Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front parking brake cable on 2010 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step to change the parking brake front cable should include vehicle lift and support. First relieve pressure on the park brake equalizer cables followed by disconnecting the front cable from its connector and extracting it from both equalizer and cable guide mechanisms. The starting point to replace the parking brake front cable requires users to first lower the vehicle then take out the left side closeout/insulator panel and both lower center pillar panel from the left side along with left side carpet retainers. To reach the front park brake cable you should unfold the carpet then disconnect it from the clevis by removing the retaining clip. The Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043) helps free the retaining system of the cable bracket found on the pedal assembly before removing the front cable from the vehicle while recording the installation path. Install the front cable inside the vehicle according to the disassembly notes then place it into the bracket attached to the park brake pedal assembly before attaching the cable button to the clevis with the retaining clip. First reposition the carpeting then put in place the left side carpet retainers and lower center pillar trim panel on the left side followed by left side closeout/insulator panel installation. After raising and supporting the vehicle workers should install the front park brake cable through the guides before placing it in the equalizer. Attach the front park brake cable to the rear cable through the connector clip followed by tightening the equalizer nut for cable length reduction and concluding by lowering the vehicle.
