2009 Chevrolet Impala Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rear Parking Brake Cable (Z7U) on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The process of replacing the Parking Brake Rear Cable (Z7U) starts with securely supporting and raising the vehicle. At the equalizer begin by releasing the park brake cable tension followed by disconnecting the front cable that will serve as replacement for the rear cable. To handle the right rear cable removal you must detach it from its clip. Jointly separate the equalizer stud from its nut as it forms a component of the left rear cable. To detach the retainer that maintains cable support bracket connection use the J 37043 (Parking Brake Cable Release Tool). Remove the park brake cable from the actuator lever and then remove its retaining pin from the support bracket followed by taking it out entirely. You should place the new park brake cable in the support bracket before you install its cable retaining pin. The park brake cable should be connected to the actuator lever while the retainer should be restored on the support bracket followed by front and rear cable connections. The right rear cable requires installation onto the clip while the left rear cable needs the equalizer stud to attach to the equalizer nut located within the equalizer assembly. The last step will involve adjusting the park brake then lowering the vehicle.
