2008 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rear Parking Brake Cable (Z7U) on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Beginning the replacement of parking brake rear cable (Z7U) requires raising and properly securing the vehicle first. Apply tension relief to the equalizer before separating the front cable from the rear cable which needs replacement. You must disconnect the right rear cable from its clip while you need to remove the entire equalizer nut from its mount at the left rear cable. To proceed with the cable removal process disconnect the retainer (J 37043) Parking Brake Cable Release Tool. Separate the park brake cable from the actuator lever before eliminating the retaining pin from the support bracket to retrieve the park brake cable. To set up the installation process position the park brake cable directly into the support bracket and mount the retaining cable pin afterward. The park brake cable needs installation at the actuator lever after you connect the retainer which holds the cable to the support bracket and join the rear cable with the front cable. The right rear cable requires attachment to the clip while the left rear cable needs the equalizer stud mounted to the equalizer nut in the assembly. After finishing adjustment work on the park brake you must lower the vehicle down.
