2007 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rear Parking Brake Cable (Z7U) on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step of park brake cable replacement for Z7U starts with vehicle lifter and proper support system and cable tension relief at the equalizer followed by disconnecting front and rear cables. Start by easing tension from the park brake cable at the equalizer then disconnect its front segment from the discontinued rear segment for replacement. The right rear cable requires disconnecting from its clip but the left rear cable needs full removal of its equalizer nut from the equalizer stud that belongs to it. You need to detach the retainer that maintains the cable position on its support bracket by using the Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043). Use the Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043) to disconnect the park brake cable from the actuator lever then remove its retaining pin from the support bracket before taking out the park brake cable. To install the cable place the park brake cable inside the support bracket then install its retaining pin. You should connect the park brake cable to the actuator lever before joining the retainer that will secure the cable to the support bracket. The right rear cable requires connection to the clip on the correct end while the left rear cable needs its equalizer stud inserted into the equalizer nut found in the equalizer assembly. Complete the procedure by adjusting the park brake followed by lowering the vehicle.
