How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?

Inspection of the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level occurs first to begin rear brake caliper replacement. The fluid level should be adjusted until it reaches the midpoint between maximum and minimum until it hits the designated mark. Rise the vehicle and maintain its position while you remove the tire and wheel assembly from the rear part. Apply by hand 2 wheel lug nuts to maintain the rotor-hub connection. Apply a large c-clamp across the top of the brake caliper so the clamp presses the caliper piston into the bore until the caliper slides off the rotor. Remove the c-clamp and brake hose-to-caliper bolt , discarding both copper gaskets . First plug the opening in the rear brake hose to stop fluid loss and contamination before you remove the caliper bolts (1 and 3) together with the caliper from the rotor and caliper bracket. Look for debris or signs of damage in the caliper bracket bolt boots then replace all badly damaged units immediately. Check the caliper bolts for damage prior to replacement while using new bolts and bushings where required. Place the caliper over the rotor and caliper bracket while ensuring bushings remain in position. Apply silicone grease to caliper bolts (1 and 3) with attention to the threads and treat the 2 bolt boots in the caliper bracket (13 and 4) with the same lubricant. Safely install caliper bolts (1 and 3) so that the boot materials maintain proper tension but do not tear or pinch. Torque the caliper bolts (1 and 3) to 44 n.m (32 lb ft) while installing new copper gaskets. The brake hose needs a brake hose bolt assembled with new copper brake hose gaskets that should be tightened to 54 n.m (40 lb ft). After removing the 2 wheel lug nuts that secure the rotor to the hub you should install the rear tire and wheel assembly followed by lowering the vehicle. Bleed the brake system after filling the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid while inspecting for any fluid leaks.
