How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2006 Chevrolet Impala?

A check of the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir should begin before rear brake caliper replacement. You should drain brake fluid when it reaches the midpoint position between maximum and minimum fluid marks. Before starting lift the vehicle safely then extract the rear tire together with its wheel assembly. Hand tighten 2 wheel lug nuts to maintain rotor-to-hub connection. Position a large c-clamp over the brake caliper top and back of outboard pad. Slowly tighten the clamp until the caliper piston enters the bore enough to remove the caliper from the rotor. Before continuing remove the c-clamp and brake hose-to-caliper bolt and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets. Gently trap the opening in the rear brake hose with a plug before removing the caliper bolts (1 and 3) and caliper from the caliper bracket and rotor. The caliper bracket bolt boots must get inspected for damage including cuts or tears while any deteriorated parts need replacement. Also check the caliper bolts for corrosion and damage then use new caliper bolts and bushings whenever necessary. After placing the caliper on top of the rotor and caliper bracket , double-check that bushings are correctly positioned. Apply silicone grease to caliper bolts (1 and 3) and avoid coating the threads. Also spread silicon grease on the 2 bolt boots (13 and 4) that fit into the caliper bracket . Thread caliper bolts 1 and 3 with a torque setting at 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs.) while making sure the bolt boots maintain a secure fit in the caliper bracket's groove. Mount new copper gaskets onto the brake hose before applying the brake hose bolt to the hose using new copper brake hose gaskets. Tighten the brake hose-to-caliper bolt to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). Begin by removing the 2 lug nuts which maintain the rotor to hub assembly and then install the tire wheel assembly while the vehicle is lowered to floor level. Next, add clean fluid to the master cylinder at the correct level followed by bleeding the system before leak inspection.
