  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2006 Chevrolet Impala?
    A: In order to replace the rear brake hose, one has to lift and support the vehicle, followed by the removal of the rear tire and wheel assembly. Remove all dirt and foreign substance from the brake hoses and brake pipe fitting, and seal in a rubber cap or plug that outcoming brake pipe fitting end to avoid the loss of brake fluids and contamination. Use a back up wrench on the hose fitting to bring off the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, without bending the brake pipe or bracket. Stand with the hose away from the base seating. Remove brake hose retaining clip from the mounting bracket hose; then remove the hose from the bracket. Next, remove the brake hose to caliper bolt from brake caliper and take off brake hose from brake caliper, throw away the two copper brake hose gaskets that might be stuck to the brake caliper or hose end. For installation, employ new copper brake hose gaskets and join with the brake hose bolt to the brake hose . Mount the brake hose to caliper bolt to the brake caliper and tighten it to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, place the brake hose into the bracket, avoiding any kinks and hose fitting lined up into the notch in the bracket with the help of the hose paint stripe. Connect the retainer to the hose fitting at the bracket, and, take off the rubber cap or plug from the end of the exposed brake pipe fitting. Connect brake pipe fitting to brake hose using a back up wrench, making sure not to bend bracket or the pipe and tighten it to 18 nm (13ft. Lbs.). Refit the rear tire and wheel assembly, making sure that the hose doesn't touch any of the suspension. If it does, take out the hose and reverse the condition. Finally, vent hydraulic brake system and drop vehicle.
