2005 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?
A: To switch brake hoses at the rear start by lifting the vehicle and placing support stands then detach the back tire along with its wheel. Clean the brake hose and brake pipe fitting connections from all soil particles while placing a rubber seal on the exposed brake pipe end to protect the fluid. Put on a back up wrench to detach the brake pipe fitting from its location at the brake hose without bending either brake component. Loosen the clip on the bracket first and take off the brake hose from its bracket connections. Take off the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper and disconnect the brake hose only to discard the two copper brake hose gaskets that stuck to the caliper or hose end. Replace two new copper brake hose gaskets when fitting the brake hose bolt to the caliper. Also connect new brake hose to the caliper and bolt it down with 54 nm pressure. Use the suspension load to put the brake hose into the bracket without bends. Align the hose fitting with the bracket notch before securing. Place the retainer over the hose fitting at the bracket before you attach the brake hose to the brake pipe port. Tighten the joint with a back up wrench to 15 nm (11ft. Lbs.) while preventing bends to bracket or pipe. Set the rear tire and wheel unit back in place but beware that the hose should not touch suspension parts during installation. Fix this if the hose makes contact. Complete the brake work by draining the hydraulic system then putting the vehicle down.
