2004 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: In order to replace the front brake hose, one has to lift and support the vehicle, take off the front tire and wheel assembly. Clean out any dirt from the brake hoses and the brake pipe fitting, and put a rubber cap or plug at the end of the exposed brake pipe fitting to prevent the fluid loss and contamination. With a back up wrench, remove the hose fitting from the brake pipe fitting and the brake hose, and then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting without bending the brake pipe or bracket. Remove the brake hose retaining clip from the bracket retaining hose mounting, and then remove the hose from the bracket. Then, separate the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper and disconnect the brake hose from the brake caliper, discarding the two copper brake hose gaskets that can be adhered at the caliper or hose end. For installation, a new copper brake hose gaskets, and install it by attaching with brake hose bolt to the brake hose. Mount the brake hose onto caliper bolt onto brake caliper and tighten up to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). With the vehicle weighing on the suspension, install the brake hose into the bracket with no kinks and slotting the hose fitting onto the notch of the bracket by the helping of the hose paint stripe as a guide. Mount the bracket on the hose fitting, and then disconnect the rubber cap or plug on the exposed brake pipe fitting end. Attach the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose using a back up wrench, while also preventing bending of the bracket or pipe, and tighten to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Remove the front tire and wheel assembly and, before tightening in, ensure that the hose is not first to come in contact with any piece of the suspension when taking an extreme turn; if it does then remove the hose and rectify that. Lastly, bleed the hydraulic brake system, and lower the vehicle.
