2007 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the J 45405 Pipe Flaring Tool Kit on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Replace the brake pipe by using the J 45405 components set (J 45405) and follow brake fluid safety procedures while installing the double-walled steel brake pipe to keep the system operational. First examine the part of the brake pipe for replacement and disconnect it from its retaining brackets when necessary. To make the required flares keep track of the total pipe length then add 6.35 millimeters to the total across all flares. Use the J 45405 pipe cutter to cut through brake pipe at the specified length. Pick suitable brake pipe tubing and tube nuts then use the J 45405 coating stripping tool to strip the pipe ends. Next, sharpen both side's inner and outer pipe surfaces using the J 45405 de-burring tool. Install the tube nuts then wipe off foreign matter from the brake pipe and J 45405 tool. Detach the die clamping screw then insert the die halves into the die holder before starting the task. Push the treated end of the pipe into the dies while clamping the screw in place and select the suitable forming tool. Use the J 45405 power lever to form the flare while watching to verify that its dimensions measure 7.10 mm (+/- 0.18 mm) for 4.76 mm (3/16 in) diameter pipe. Form the new pipe to its needed shape before installing it at least 19 mm (3/4 in) away from moving items. Secure the brake pipe to the retainers before bleeing the hydraulic brake system. Check both brake hose flares for leaks when the engine runs and brakes are active during the last step.
