2007 Chevrolet Impala Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?
A: To replace the Parking Brake Shoe, first, support the vehicle through lifting but also removing the rear tire and the wheel assemblies. Release the tension on the park brake system at the equalizer assembly, removal of rear caliper bracket, and rear rotor. Unplug and pull off the rear park brake cable from the rear wheel bracket, unplug the park brake cable return spring from the park brake actuator and bracket on the rear wheel. Next, also take out the rear hub consisting of rear hub, backing plate, park brake cable bracket, and park brake actuator as an assembly. Drift out 2 retainers and the park brake cable bracket from the park brake actuator then lay the rear hub aside. Unfit the park break shoe and actuator from the backing plate and split the park break shoe from the actuator. Assemble the park brake shoe to the actuator and attach the park brake shoe and actuator to the backing plate. Place the assembly over the rear hub, install the park brake cable bracket and the two retainers and tighten the bracket's retainers at 14 n.m (124 lb in). Mount the rear hub as an assembly, attach the rear park brake cable on the bracket on the rear wheel, and connect the return linkage of the park brake cable on the park brake actuator and bracket on the rear wheel. Mount the rear rotor, followed by the rear caliper bracket, followed by the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Lastly, make adjustments to the park brake system and bring down the vehicle.
