2007 Chevrolet Impala Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Before working on rear disc brake pads you need to check brake master cylinder reservoir fluid. When the level crosses the midway mark between highest and lowest settings you should drain extra fluid to reach that midpoint. Lift the car while supporting it and take off both the rear wheel and tire. Insert a hand-tightened lug nut to hold the rotor in place then apply a c-clamp to push the caliper piston aside for clearance. Support the brake caliper using heavy mechanic's wire so you can detach its upper bolt without damaging the pin boot. Lower the caliper to reach the pads while keeping it in position then take out both pads and the 2 retainers attached to the caliper bracket. Check the caliper mounting hardware and dust boot for any damage while replacing worn-out parts. Also test new caliper bolts when detecting corrosion. A c-clamp enables bottoming the piston while installing by positioning it in the caliper bore and pushing with an old Brake Pad or wooden block for piston protection. The retained components in the caliper bracket should install together. Position the wear sensor so it goes at the rear end of the outer Brake Pad. Place the pads on the caliper bracket before guiding the caliper over it. Use silicone grease to lubricate the bolt and boot parts before adding and tightening the upper caliper bolt to 44 n.m (32 lb ft). Put back the wheel lug nut followed by mounting the rear tire and wheel unit and placing the vehicle down. Slowly press the brake pedal to two-thirds of its range while stopping when the engine is off then release it slowly. Complete the action until you experience a solid brake pedal response to position the brake caliper pistons and pads correctly. After filling the brake cylinder reservoir up to its recommended level perform pad and rotor burnishing.
