2009 Chevrolet Impala Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: First test brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. When fluid level exceeds the mark between minimum and maximum points, drain enough until the fluid hits the target level. First elevate the vehicle and take off its rear wheel assembly. Put a loosened lug nut on the rotor before pushing the caliper piston back using a c-clamp to make space. Elevate the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire before removing its upper bolt to keep the hydraulic hose strain-free. Lower the caliper to access the pads while leaving it in place and remove both pads and pad clips from the bracket. Check and replace the caliper mounting hardware that shows cuts, tears, or wear. Also test the caliper dust boot for damage. Test the caliper bolt quality and replace it with new parts as needed. The piston needs to be driven downward by a c-clamp with an old Brake Pad or wooden block to prevent damage during installation. Securing the 2 retainers to the caliper bracket should place the wear sensor properly on the outside pad. Raise the caliper upward to position it on top of the pads before securing the hardware pieces. Use silicone grease to lubricate both parts before securing the upper caliper bolt to 44 nm (32 lb ft). Put the wheel lug nut back on the rotor and attach the tire and wheel assembly while keeping their marks aligned to their original position. Lower the car afterward. When the engine is inactive press and hold the Brake Pedal two-thirds of its distance and release it slowly. After 15 seconds repeat the action until the brake caliper fully settles into the pad contact position. Complete service by adding brake fluid to the correct amount before running the pads and discs.
