Make use of the j 22912-b (Bearing Remove) to extract the inner Pinion Bearing that exists on the Differential pinion gear. A hammer with brass drift should be employed to eliminate the outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups by pushing them out uniformly. A brass drift must strike the pinion gear pilot bearing to remove it using a hammer. To install the drive pinion pilot gear bearing position it inside the Differential housing then execute installation via j 22761 (Side Bearing Installer) and j 8092 (Universal Driver Handle - 3/4 in - 10). You should use the j 8092 and j 37624 to install the inner Pinion Bearing cup before using j 8608 and j 8092 to place the outer Pinion Bearing cup. You must keep pressing until the cone adequately seats on the pinion. You must install the inner Pinion Bearing with j 24433 (Pinion Bearing Installer) and a hydraulic press. Add a standard collapsible spacer followed by Pinion Bearing lubrication with axle lubricant. The Pinion Bearing retainer must accept the outer Pinion Bearing followed by sealing installation using the j 44414 (Pinion Oil Seal Installer) and subsequent pinion insertion into the retainer. Fasten the drive pinion flange/yoke without sealant on the retainer and install the original shim or use 0.41 mm (0.016 in) shim if the original is missing. Secure the Pinion Bearing retainer on the axle housing then tighten the retainer bolts to 88 nm (65 lb ft) and check the pinion rotational torque which should be between 1.0-2.3 nm (10-20 lb in) for used bearings or 1.7-3.4 nm (15-30 lb in) for new bearings. Use the j 8614-01 (Flange Holder and Remover) tool to stepwise increase the pinion nut until the correct torque measurement is reached when torque is below requirements. The Differential assembly needs to be reinstalled after ensuring bearing seating by rotating the pinion as part of the adjustment process for Differential side bearing preload. Choose the appropriate selective shim thickness for the drive pinion before modifying the backlash. Lower the vehicle after you finish filling its axle with lubricating oil.
