The process of drive Pinion Bearing replacement starts by hoisting the vehicle then removing the Differential assembly. Press out the bearing from the axle housing by using split-plate bearing puller (J 22912-B). You need to extract both selective pinion shims and outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups from the axle housing through hammering and brass drift strike application. You can install the outer Pinion Bearing cup by using the rear Pinion Bearing race installer (J 8611-01) together with the universal driver handle (J 8092). The Pinion Bearing cup installer (J 45870) with universal driver handle (J 8092) should be used for installing the inner Pinion Bearing cup. Insert the selective shim designed for the drive pinion between the inner Pinion Bearing and its shoulder on the gear. Then install the bearing with the pinion cone and side bearing installer (J 24433). Use a new collapsible spacer while lubricating pinion bearings using proper axle lubricant. Insert the outer Pinion Bearing into the housing before setting a new pinion oil seal through the extension housing oil pump/seal installer (J 38694). The pinion installation should begin with appropriate splines sealant on the pinion yoke followed by proper alignment of marks previously marked during removal. The pinion shaft receives the pinion yoke using a soft-faced hammer before adding the washer followed by installing a new pinion nut. The flange and pulley holding tool (J 8614-01) should be used to secure the pinion yoke when tightening the nut until the pinion end play just reaches its limit while rotating the pinion for bearing seating. Use the flange and pulley holding tool to tighten the pinion nut until the rotating torque reaches the specified threshold for used/new bearings and subsequently measure the torque. To properly install the Differential assembly users must first reach the correct torque on the pinion then rotate it several times to seat the bearings properly. The procedure ends by filling the axle with lubricant and lowering the vehicle.

You need the following equipment to work on the Differential side bearings: some of the needed tools are the j8092 universal driver handle, the j21784 side bearing installer, the j22888-d side bearing remover kit, the j24430 Differential side bearing installer, the j36597 side bearing puller pilot - 9.25 inch, the j45711 Differential side bearing remover- dana 248, the j45900 Differential side bearing installer - dana you should begin the process by taking off the Differential assembly. When working on the 8.6 inch or 10.5 inch axle with rpo g80, put the Differential assembly in a vise, use the j22888-20a and j8107-4 for the 8.6-inch or j8107-3 for the 10.5 inch, both as shown, and follow up by removing the side bearing with the j22888-20a. After taking the Differential out of the vise, use the j45711 and j36597 as shown on the 9.75 inch axle, and take out the side bearing with the j45711 and a hydraulic press. Take apart the 10.5 inch axle without rpo g80 by taking the Differential side bearing cage and roller bearings off the inner bearing race, then carefully remove the inner bearing race without damaging the Differential case. Protect the Differential case by using the j8107-4 for the 3.6 inch axle, j36597 for the 9.75 lay the bearing on the Differential case, then put the side bearing installer from the j8092 onto the Differential side bearing and lower it in place. For the 8.6 inch axle, use j21784, and if you have 9.75 inch or 10.5 inch with no rpo g80, use j24430 or j45900, but for the 9.75 inch with rpo g80 use dt46725. Use the suitable installer and j8092 to drive the bearing onto the Differential case, and afterwards secure the Differential assembly.

Vehicle elevation and suspension become necessary before starting the replacement process of 10.5-inch axle drive pinion bearings. You need to begin by removing the Differential assembly before extracting both the pinion yoke and oil seal. The following step requires the removal of the drive pinion housing assembly. The drive pinion gear pinion together with the collapsible spacer should be extracted using a press and appropriate tool. The tool j 22912-b (Bearing Remover) combined with a hydraulic press allows the removal of the inner drive Pinion Bearing when properly using a brass drift to distribute pressure across bearing cups. Execute this operation for the outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups together with the pinion gear pilot bearing. Place the drive pinion gear pilot bearing into the Differential housing opening before installing it with the j 22761 (Side Bearing Installer) operating using the j 8092 (Universal Driver Handle). The installation process begins by using the j 8092 with j 37624 (Pinion Bearing Installer) to install the inner Pinion Bearing cup followed by the outer Pinion Bearing cup installation with j 8092 together with j 8608 (Pinion Bearing Cup Installer). Put the inner Pinion Bearing inside the j 24433 (Pinion Bearing Installer) and operate it under hydraulic pressure before adding the new collapsible spacer. The pinion bearings need axle lubricant before putting the outsized Pinion Bearing into its retainer. The j 44414 (Pinion Oil Seal Installer) serves to place the new pinion oil seal before inserting the pinion into the bearing retainer and drive pinion flange/yoke. Pivot between the original shim or a specific 0.41 mm (0.016 in) shim when the authentic piece cannot be obtained before fastening the pinion gear bearing retainer to the axle housing. Use j 8614-01 (Flange Holder and Remover) to examine the pinion rotation torque because used bearings should measure from 1.0-2.3 nm (10-20 lb in) while new bearings should measure 1.7-3.4 nm (15-30 lb in). Apply adjustments as needed. The specified torque must be verified and then the pinion needs to be rotated multiple times before rechecking the torque. Users can then install the Differential assembly before they adjust the Differential side bearing preload and drive pinion gear pinion depth as well as backlash measurement. End the process by adding lubricant to the axle before removing the support structure and letting the vehicle descend.

Use the suitable installer and j8092 to drive the bearing onto the Differential case, and afterwards secure the Differential assembly.

Use the J 8092 (Universal Drive Handle 3/4 in-10) and the J 45870 (Inner Pinion Bearing Race Installer).

Begin by raising the vehicle and removing the differential assembly, followed by the drive pinion from the axle.

Drive the bearing onto the differential case using the appropriate installer and the J8092, then complete the installation by securing the differential assembly.

After removing the differential assembly from the vise, install the J45711 and the J36597, then remove the differential side bearing using the J45711 and a hydraulic press.

Determine the selective pinion shim thickness and pinion preload shim thickness for the drive pinion.

Replace the old pinion nut with a new one.

Position the drive pinion pilot gear bearing in the differential housing.

A 0.41 mm (0.016 in) shim.
