2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: First, check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level to replace the rear disc brake pads. If the level is above mid-way between max-full point and min-allowable point, remove some brake fluid to make it mid-way between the max/ min level. Lift the vehicle and take out the tire and wheel assembly. Next, release the upper brake caliper guide pin bolt and pivot the brake caliper down placing it on the heavy mechanics wire. Use a block of wood or old Brake Pad and a Brake Pad spreader tool to push the brake caliper pistons to the bottom of the caliper bore. Then take out the inner and outer brake pads while paying attention to the position of the Brake Pad wear sensors to not bother during the process of installing brake pads and put off the Brake Pad shims of the upper and lower parts and discard them if new brake pads are put into place. For installation, the upper and lower Brake Pad shims and install the inner and outer brake pads and make sure the wear sensors be installed in the correct position. Pivot the Brake Pedal into its place, bolt the upper brake caliper guide pin bolt a little, and tighten it to 31 nm (23 lb ft). Replace the tire and wheel assembly, lower the vehicle and depressing the Brake Pedal to about two-thirds before easing off it with the engine off. Wait for 15 seconds and repeat the process till a firm Brake Pedal is gained to ensure the brake caliper pistons and brake pads are firmly seated. Finally, make sure to top the master cylinder reservoir to its correct level and burnish the pads and rotors.
