How to Replace a Rear Door Hinge on 2009 GMC Canyon?

The process of replacing the rear side door hinge begins with opening the rear door then removing the bolt attached to the body which connects the rear door check link. First pull the rear door wiring harness grommet out from the body then disconnect the door wiring harness connectors. The rear door hinge keeper straps need their securing bolts to be extracted. You should raise the rear door using assistance until it clears the body side hinges before putting it on a sanitized protective surface. Start by taking off the door side hinges from the door by removing their retaining bolts. To install the door side rear door hinge position it on the door while securing the bolts for retaining the door side hinge and torquing them to 25 Nm (18 lb ft). Two technicians can lower the rear door onto body side hinge straps while installing the retaining bolts which they should torque at 25 Nm (18 lb ft). The rear door wiring harness connectors should first be rejoined followed by the installation of the rear door wiring harness grommet to the body structure. After securing the bolt to the body to retain the rear door check link complete the installation by fixing it at 25 Nm (18 lb ft). Check the door alignment and operation.
