How to replace the upper rear side access door latch assembly on 2009 GMC Canyon?

Start the upper rear side access door latch replacement by opening the door followed by removing its trim panel. The upper latch rod needs releasing from the latch through unleashing the retaining clip before you can remove bolts (1, 2) from the rear side access door to extract the upper latch. Place the upper latch onto the rear side access door after which securely install the lower bolts to keep it in place. Start by securing the lower bolts on the latch bracket until the door panel meets the bracket flush before connecting the upper latch rod with its retaining clips. Complete wrapping the rear side door and the upper latch will automatically align before securing the lower bolts. To install the upper rear side access door upper latch bolt you must first open the rear side access door before tightening it to 9 Nm (80 lb in). ullivan to installing the rear side access door trim panel followed by closing the door.
