2009 GMC Canyon Oil Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Replace an Engine Oil Filter and Ensure Proper Oil Maintenance on 2009 GMC Canyon?
A: After you have removed the oil fill cap you must raise your vehicle securely before starting the replacement process. Wipe away any Oil Pan dust and set down a proper vessel to capture the oil below. Remove the Drain Plug from the Oil Pan to drain all the oil and thoroughly inspect and clean both the Drain Plug and its sealing surface before installing a new Oil Pan if needed. Reinstall the Drain Plug tightly before placing receptacles under the deflector and selecting a drain pan to sit under the Oil Filter until you remove it along with the gasket. The adapter needs to be removed from the filter in case there's no gasket. Apply clean engine oil to the new Oil Filter gasket followed by installing the new Oil Filter and applying 10 nm (89 lb in) torque while rotating it by an additional 150 degrees. Wipe off any remaining oil from the Oil Filter drain deflector and secure the Oil Pan Drain Plug to 26 nm (19 lb ft). Move the drain pan from under the vehicle. Slower the vehicle and add fresh engine oil before starting the engine to verify for any leaking points. Turn off the engine and wait for the oil to settle down. Afterwards remove the oil level indicator for cleaning before reinstalling it against the top edge of the tube. After removing the indicator recheck the oil level then add or drain oil to reach proper levels before inspecting for leaks and putting back the oil fill cap.
