2009 GMC Envoy Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on a 4WD on 2009 GMC Envoy?
A: The first step to replace the Steering Knuckle starts by taking off the tire and wheel center cap then performing drive axle nut removal before continuing. First lift and secure the vehicle before removing the wheel and tire. You should remove the Wheel Hub combined with the bearing. The j 24319-b tool helps remove the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle after discarding both the outer tie rod's retaining nut but keeping it with the equipment. First remove the steerin knuckle brake hose bracket retaining bolts together with the bracket that supports the Steering Knuckle. Caretakers should disconnect the upper Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle by removing its pinch bolt and nut. Use j 43631 to remove the lower Ball Joint retaining nut and extract the Steering Knuckle from the lower Control Arm with the tool. Then detach the Steering Knuckle from the vehicle. The installation process begins by connecting the Steering Knuckle to the lower Control Arm but requires new lower Ball Joint retaining nut installation followed by torque application to 110 nm (81 lb ft). After mounting the Steering Knuckle to the upper Control Arm install new nuts and pinch bolts before tightening the bolt to 40 nm (30 lb ft). The brake hose bracket returns to its position on the Steering Knuckle by using retaining bolts which should reach 10 nm torque (89 lb in). Fasten the outer tie rod onto the Steering Knuckle followed by torquing the new retaining nut to 60 nm (44 lb ft). Put the Wheel Hub and bearing back in then finish with tire and wheel installation. After lowering the vehicle you should install the drive axle nut before tightening it to 140 nm (103 lb ft). Front wheel alignment should be checked as the last step.
