2010 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2010 Buick Lucerne?
A: Begin replacement of the Oil Pan by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable first. Mounting struts from the engine must be removed before installing the engine support fixture. After removing the Catalytic Converter you need to remove the oil Drain Plug from the Oil Pan and drain the crankcase until installation of the Drain Plug. Start by removing the right front tire and wheel then move onto removing the front wheelhouse liner. Begin by removing the access Drive Belt followed by the oil filter adapter before dismantling the compressor bolts and nut from the Starter unit and setting the compressor to the side. The oil level sensor needs its electrical connector removed and the engine harness clips must be removed from the Oil Pan and transaxle brace before separating the front transaxle brace to engine bolts and the brace itself. After loosening the transaxle mount lower nuts the technician must take off the rear transaxle brace to engine/Oil Pan bolts before lowering the vehicle. The support fixture allows engine elevation for bolt removal of right side Oil Pan side bolts using j 39505 followed by left side Oil Pan side bolts and Oil Pan bolts then pan removal alongside gasket removal. Wipe down the Oil Pan flanges as well as the Oil Pan rail while also cleaning the front cover and rear main bearing cap and threaded holes. First treat the crankshaft rear main bearing cap sides along with the front cover/block junction area with sealer before installing a fresh Oil Pan Gasket and placing the Oil Pan onto the engine. Install the Oil Pan bolts first before applying 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque and continue by installing and tightening the left side Oil Pan side bolts. Use tool j 39505 to position right side Oil Pan side bolts before torquing them to 50 nm (37 lb ft) against a 50-degree seating torque angle. After installing engine mount bracket bolts with a torque setting of 50 nm (37 lb ft), lower both the vehicle and the engine support fixture. First raise the vehicle to install the rear transaxle brace which must be tightened to 63 nm (46 lb ft) on the engine/Oil Pan bolts. Next add the front transaxle brace and the brace to engine bolts which must be tightened to 63 nm (46 lb ft). Connect the oil level sensor's electrical connector before you put the engine harness clips on the Oil Pan and transaxle brace. Position the A/C Compressor before installing the compressor nut and bolt to 50 nm (37 lb ft) torque and follow with compressor rear bolt installation and 50 nm (37 lb ft) tightening. Put in the Starter followed by the oil filter adapter and accessory Drive Belt before installing the front wheelhouse liner and right front tire and wheel. First lower the vehicle while reinstalling the Catalytic Converter followed by removing the engine support fixture to finally install the engine mount struts. The final step requires new engine oil filling into the crankcase before reattaching the negative Battery Cable.
