- Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads (JE5, J55) on 2010 Cadillac CTS?A: First check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before replacing rear disc brake pads (JE5, J55). If the fluid sits at half the space between maximum and minimum marks no fluid needs to be drained. However drain fluid to halfway when it exceeds that level. Lift the vehicle and keep it stable while letting go of the park brake cable if installed and taking off the tire and wheel components. Place the c-clamp against the brake Brake Pad surface and the brake caliper's rear to push the pistons into the bores. Secure the brake caliper with strong mechanic wire to protect the hydraulic silicone brake tube. Replace the upper brake caliper guide pin bolt while holding it in place with a back up tool. Position the brake caliper forward and secure it with proper tools. Detach the Brake Pad both inside and out plus the pad springs from the brake caliper. Check guide pins and seals of the brake caliper plus Brake Pad springs for flaws and rust formation. Put the Brake Pad springs, inner and outer brake pads in place before moving the brake caliper into its correct position. Before using the brake caliper guide pin bolt again, scrub threads of both components with denatured alcohol before drying them. Swipe gm p/n 12345493 threadlocker (Canadian P/N 10953488) onto 2/3 of the brake caliper guide pin bolt threads before allowing it to create a strong bond for 10 minutes. Secure the brake caliper guide pin bolt at 60 nm (44 lb ft). Place the tire and wheel back then press the brake pedal 2/3 of its range at slow engine stop to achieve a strong brake pedal holding position before brake piston and pad placement occurs. Add brake fluid to the master cylinder tank until the electronic park brake cable requires no adjustment if the vehicle has this system. Finally, burnish the pads and rotors.
