2010 Cadillac SRX Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How should you replace the brake line to prevent brake system failure on 2010 Cadillac SRX?
A: Always choose double-walled steel brake pipe as replacement parts to stop potential brake system failures when fitting new pipes into their original attachment spots. During service when breaking the brake pipe in sections replace it with tube of identical properties and outside size combined with the correct fittings which should match the original shape. First examine the damaged area then detach brake pipe restraints when necessary to select a spot for sectioning inside the CH-45405 - Brake Pipe Flaring Kit range while keeping parts straight and away from fixed points. To obtain the needed pipe length for replacement measure the following: a 6.35 mm expandable kit for pipes of 4.76 mm in diameter, a 9.50 mm tool for pipes of 6.35 mm diameter, and a 12.67 mm kit for 7.94 mm diameter thick pipes. Grab the brake pipe with the CH-45405 kit's pipe cutter then divide it at precise measurement following the process instructions. Remove the cut pipe segment. Pick the correct brake pipe size and tube nuts then use the coating stripping tool from the kit to strip nylon coating from the flaring end. Use the metal surface safely and create proper chamfering with the de-burring tool from the kit. Put the tubes first and wipe away dust from both brake pipe and kit parts before you set up flaring dies. Place the processed pipe end in the dies then fasten the clamp. Next, shape the tube with the forming tool followed by the finishing die. Check if new flared ends meet established dimensions: 6.74-7.10 mm (0.265-0.279 in) for 4.76 mm (3/16 in), 8.57-9.27 mm (0.344-0.358 in) for 6.35 mm (1/4 in), and 10.42-10.79 mm (0.410-0.425 in) for 7.94 mm (5/16 in). Reform the new pipe using a brake pipe bending tool so it stays at least 19 mm (3/4 in) away from moving parts. Install the pipe with properly matching unions then attach it to the retainers if they were unlocked. Check for hydraulic brake system leaks during engine running with brake application after bleeding the system.
