2010 Chevrolet Camaro Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on Bank 1 on 2010 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The first step to replace the bank 1 camshaft position actuator requires removal of the camshaft cover. Remove the intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valves from the solenoid valve solenoid and then detach the intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors. Using the crankshaft dampener retaining bolt rotate the engine clockwise to position the camshaft flats in an upward direction while keeping the camshafts on their base circle position. Leverage a suitable tool to remove the retaining bolts of the camshaft position actuators before recording the chain's position to these actuators. Move forward toward the front cap while removing its installation bolts along with the front cap structure. En49982-1 - timing chain retainer requires its wingnut to become loose for installation while keeping the Timing Chain secured in position. Place the en49982-2 - timing chain retainer between the camshaft position actuators after ensuring its correct installation orientation. While using downward force on en49982-2 - retainer to activate the Timing Chain engagement with the exhaust camshaft perform the action. Then release the downward force to create a secure retainer position. Verify that the Timing Chain demonstrates proper tightness by removing en49982-2 - retainer. The camshaft position actuator retaining bolts required torque of 58 nm (43 lb ft) before unscrewing the wingnut on en49982-1 - retainer to free the Timing Chain for removal. Install the camshaft front cap followed by its bolts and tighten them to 10 nm (89 lb in). Install the intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valves before proceeding to install the camshaft position sensors after which you should reposition the camshaft cover.
