2010 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch Assembly (LE8, LE9) (2.2L, 2.4L) on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: First tape or plug the A/C Compressor ports to protect pag oil from leaking during air conditioning clutch assembly (LE8, LE9) (2.2L, 2.4L) replacement work. Set the A/C Compressor aside on a compressor stand after extracting it from the vehicle. Hold the hub assembly in place with j 37872 while using j 37872 to detach the wiring harness retaining screws from the clutch assembly. Make sure to keep the clutch shim from getting lost during the clutch plate retaining nut removal step. Begin by removing the clutch plate followed by applying j 6083 to loosen the pulley snap ring with care not to touch the A/C Compressor shaft. An appropriately sized impact socket will protect the compressor shaft during pulley removal while j 41816 will remove the hub assembly and j 6083 will uninstall the coil snap ring until the clutch coil can be taken out. The smooth removal of shaft seal and felt wick and retainer requires a small flat-bladed instrument. Use an appropriate socket to install the shaft seal (felt wick) into the A/C Compressor while making sure the retainer sits flush with the housing. The dimple area of the clutch coil needs to match the notch in the A/C Compressor casting before clutch coil installation and snap ring complete seating. Utilize j 6083 to install the coil snap ring followed by clutch pulley assembly onto the A/C Compressor with a hydraulic press while making sure the snap ring attains full seating. Drive in the wiring harness retaining screws while tightening them to 2.3 nm (22 lb in). To reassemble the A/C Compressor install the clutch plate onto it while securing the original retaining nut with j 37872 until it reaches a torque of 25 nm (18 lb ft). The air gap measurement between clutch plate and clutch pulley must be between 0.3 to 0.7 mm (0.012-0.028 in) use an available shim from the service kit to make adjustments if the measurement falls outside the specification range. Add the new clutch plate retaining nut supplied with the kit and tighten it to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Reinstall the A/C Compressor into the vehicle after removing the cap or tape from the ports then conduct a leak test of the fittings with j 39400-a.
