• Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch Assembly (LNF) (2.0L) on 2009 Chevrolet HHR?

  A: First remove the compressor before proceeding to replace the compressor clutch assembly (LNF) (2.0L). Install three 5/16 x 1 inch bolts into the universal spanner wrench (J 37872) where the adjustable dowels originally were. Use the universal spanner wrench (J 37872) to extract the compressor clutch plate bolt while you remove the compressor clutch plate from the compressor. The external snap ring pliers (J 6083) must be used to remove the compressor pulley snap ring while you also need to remove the compressor pulley. Use the external snap ring pliers (J 6083) to remove the compressor clutch coil snap ring before extracting the compressor clutch coil. Clear the clutch plate bolt threads by using an m6x1.0 tap followed by compressed air blowout of remaining debris before installation. Use external snap ring pliers (J 6083) to attach the compressor clutch coil snap ring on the compressor while installing the compressor clutch coil. Install the compressor pulley and snap ring together by using external snap ring pliers (J 6083). Push the 0.4 mm (0.016 in) air gap shim into the drive plate clutch before installing the compressor clutch plate. Add a tiny amount of oil to the shim first. Use wrenches to rotate the drive plate while checking its distance from the pulley. Adjust shims until attaining a 0.3-0.6 mm (0.012-0.024 in) air gap. Verify that the primed threads on the new bolt of the drive plate extend for at least 5 threads before you install it. Use universal spanner wrench (J 37872) to tighten the compressor clutch drive plate bolt to a torque of 12 nm (9 lb ft). Execute a leak test on all fittings by using the a/c manifold gauge set (J 39400-A) after you reassemble the compressor.
