2010 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on the Camshaft Position Intake Actuator on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The first step for Camshaft position intake actuator replacement includes Camshaft cover and Spark Plug removal. After rotating the Crankshaft clockwise you should proceed with inserting the Camshaft actuator retainer (EN-48953). Fasten the Camshaft actuator retainer bolts then torque them to 10 nm (89 lb in). Loosen the intake Camshaft actuator bolt without separating it from its position and remove the Camshaft actuator locking tool (EN-48953). Wash the Timing Chain and gears with solvent solution while maintaining marking accuracy between the Timing Chain and Camshaft position actuators. Write down the positioning and marking of both intake and exhaust Camshaft actuators on the Timing Chain. Reset the upper Timing Chain guide bolts and guide before taking out the Timing Chain Tensioner while preventing rotation of the intake Camshaft actuator. Use the Timing Chain retention tool (EN-48749) on each side of the Timing Chain before discarding and removing the intake Camshaft actuator bolt. To reduce Timing Chain tension the exhaust Camshaft needs clockwise rotation before extracting the intake Camshaft actuator from its position on the Camshaft and Timing Chain. Follow these steps for installation by matching the Timing Chain mark to the alignment mark on the intake Camshaft actuator and then place the Timing Chain on the actuator. Properly position the new intake Camshaft actuator bolt while fastening it and take out the Timing Chain retention tool that was placed on each side of the Timing Chain. The procedure begins with installing the Camshaft actuator retainer (EN-48953) while tightening its bolts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Connect the new Camshaft actuator bolt with 30 nm (22 lb ft) while continuing to rotate it an additional 100 degrees through the angle measurement tool (J 45059). The tensioner release requires applying opposite torque of 45 nm (33 lb ft) to the Crankshaft balancer bolt. The procedure ends with these steps: remove the Camshaft actuator retainer (EN-48953) before installing upper Timing Chain guides and their bolts which require a torque of 10 nm (89 lb in). Next replace the spark plugs along with the Camshaft cover.
