2010 Chevrolet HHR Valve Stem Oil Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve assembly parts need the use of a valve spring compressor (J 43649) and Valve Stem Oil Seal remover (J 36017) for proper maintenance. First take off the Camshaft before removing the spark plugs and Camshaft roller followers. Mount the front part of j43649 valve spring compressor on the second Camshaft cover bolt hole while attaching other components to the cylinder head. Insert the Spark Plug air hose adapter into the opening and join an air hose. Compressed air at 690 kpa (100 psi) should then pressurize the cylinder. Use the valve spring compressor (J 43649) to press down the spring before taking off both valve spring keepers plus retainer and spring. Insert the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover tool j 36017 to uninstall the valve seal. You can install the new valve seal with the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover j 36017 device by pressing it slowly onto the valve guide until it touches the bottom surface. Pump up the valve spring with the valve spring compressor j 43649 before adding the valve spring retention devices. Take away the air hose and air hose adapter from the Spark Plug opening before disassembling the valve spring compressor (J 43649) from the cylinder head. Place back the Camshaft roller followers and spark plugs after installing the Camshaft.
