2009 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2009 Chevrolet HHR?
A: To perform this operation you need a valve spring compressor j 43649 Valve Stem Oil Seal remover j 36017 flywheel holding tool j 43653 and sprocket holding tool j 43655. Before using compressed air you must stop Crankshaft movement because applying pressure to a spinning sprocket holding tool (J 43655) can cause damage. Set the manual transmission in first gear with wheels on the ground and activated parking brake. Take out the automatic transmission Starter before working on it. Fit the flywheel holding tool (J 43653) and take out both Camshaft and its rollers. Use the valve spring compressor parts to attach the device to the second Camshaft cover bolt hole as well as the cylinder head. Put on the Air Hose adapter to the Spark Plug hole and join the hose. Increase cylinder pressure to 100 psi through the hose. Pressurize the cylinder with the valve spring compressor j 43649 set and remove valve spring components. Place the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover j 36017 onto the old valve seal to disassemble it. Attach the new valve seal to this tool for complete valve guide seating before removing the tool. Put back the valve spring parts and reconnect the Air Hose adapter after disconnecting its Air Hose. Reinstall the spark plugs while placing the Camshaft roller followers and Camshaft back into the cylinder head once you have taken off the valve spring compressor (J 43649). Replace the Starter after removing the flywheel holding tool (J 43653) when needed.
