2010 GMC Canyon Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Cam Gear intake sprocket on 2010 GMC Canyon?
A: The replacement process of the Camshaft intake sprocket begins with cleaning the Camshaft cover from its mounting position. Turn the Crankshaft clockwise while the #1 Piston follows a compression movement until it attains its highest position at top dead center (TDC). Start by using the timing mark on the intake Camshaft sprocket to mark the Timing Chain link located next to it. Secure the Camshaft holding tool (J 44221) on the rear side of the camshafts. The Timing Chain retention tool (J 44217) together with chain holding tool (J-44217-45) must be installed by placing the tools hook into a Timing Chain link near the Timing Chain shoe on both engine sides. After hooking the tools in place you should tighten the wingnuts to guarantee the hooks stay affixed and the gauge blocks sit firmly on the head surface. First remove the intake Camshaft sprocket bolt before taking off the sprocket piece. To install position the marked Timing Chain link in front of the intake Camshaft sprocket timing mark while using a 1 inch wrench to turn the Camshaft hex while ensuring the alignment pin enters its place. After placing the new intake Camshaft sprocket onto the Camshaft position, install the new bolt with torque to 20 nm (15 lb ft) followed by an additional 100 degrees of angle using the angle meter (J 45059). To complete the repair reinstall the Camshaft cover after extracting the Timing Chain retention tool (J 44217) and chain holding tool (J-44217-45) together with removing the Camshaft holding tool (J 44221).
