2011 GMC Canyon Front Cross-Member Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Front Cross-Member for both 2WD and 4WD on 2011 GMC Canyon?
A: In order to replace the transmission support crossmember for 2wd and 4wd, it is necessary to lift the vehicle and properly fix the transmission with a suitable steering or stand/jack. For 2wd, pull off nuts to keep the transmission mount on the transmission support, and lift the transmission. Next, pull out the vertical bolts and horizontal nuts and bolts that hold the transmission support to the frame. For installation, set the transmission support back in its place and hook the horizontal nuts and bolts, then the vertical bolts. Tighten horizontal nuts to 50 n.m (37 lb.ft) and vertical bolts 100 n.m (74 lb ft). Reduce the transmission and tighten nuts to the transmission mount before lifting vehicle or taking out the stand or jack and lowering the vehicle. For 4 wd follow the same first steps but once you lift the transmission there are nuts that hold the transmission mount to the transmission support, remove these nuts and then follow an identical removal and installation as in the 2wd section.
