    Q: How to Replace a CV Boot and CV Joint on a Front Wheel Drive Shaft for Outer on Buick Enclave?
    A:
    Before starting the front wheel drive shaft outer joint and boot replacement you must first remove the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle and install the drive Axle Shaft in a soft jawed vice without damaging the inboard or outboard boot sealing surfaces which could shorten the cv joint life. A flat-bladed tool should first remove boot clamps from the constant velocity joint and boot section while side cutters eliminate boot clamps on the boot and wheel drive shaft . Remove the old boot clamps while using brand new replacements. Before proceeding, strike the cv joint off the wheel drive shaft using both a hammer and wood block to extract the boot from the wheel drive shaft . Whoever repairs this system must check the outer cv joint for possible damage and signs of wear. Seat the boot inside the wheel drive shaft grooves until it takes a secure position. Install half of the service kit lubricant in the outboard boot before filling the cv joint entirely with remaining lubricant. Use the wood block with hammer to position the cv joint on the wheel drive shaft. Afterward install the boot clamp on each end beginning at the boot and wheel drive shaft. Then move to the boot clamp at the boot and cv joint housing. Ensure the clamp extends fully around the boot perimeter while both gaps measure less than 1.9 mm (0.07 inches). The j 35910 - drive axle seal clamp pliers should be used to tighten the boot clamp when the gap reaches 1.9 mm (0.07 in). When using earless type clamp on vehicles, utilize ch 48894 - wheel drive shaft boot clamp pliers to close the boot clamp while ensuring both its correct seating position on the boot. Use the circular motion to apply lubricant inside the outer cv joint at least four to five times. Then remove the wheel drive shaft from the bench vise while installing the assembly.
