Buick Lucerne Brake Calipers Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on Buick Lucerne?
A: Before working on the brake caliper you need to drain all brake fluid from it. Handle the Piston and compressed air with care since the danger of injuries exists during this process. When the caliper Piston gets damaged during removal discard it for replacement purposes. Fix the brake caliper safely then mount it in a device while inserting wooden material beside it and wrapping it with a shop towel. Press filtered dry air through the brake caliper to take out the pistons. After unsuccessful Piston removal replace the Piston into its original position, position a timber piece and c-clamp partially to hold it, then reintroduce air pressure. Pull out all three pistons from the caliper bores and then take away the two Piston seals without using metal tools. Take out both the bleeder valve cap and valve from the caliper holder. Use denatured alcohol to clean all components then dry them with filter compressed air. Push the boots out from the caliper bores without damaging their surface. You must replace either the pistons or caliper parts when finding scoring, corrosion, pitting marks, or physical damage on the pistons. Use denatured alcohol to sanitize the brake caliper unit and finish with filtered compressed air that contains lubricant. Install Piston dust seal while inserting Piston seal into the Piston bores and apply brake fluid. Secure Piston with a level position. Apply the j8092 handle tool (J8092) and j45863 boot seal installer (J45863) to place the Piston dust seal properly. Secure the bleeder valve into brake caliper housing and tighten it to 13 nm while installing the bleeder valve cap.
